New Law for Reuniting Stray Dogs with Their Owner in the city of Dallas
Any person who takes possession or control of a stray dog within the corporate limits of the City of Dallas, shall make a reasonable effort to locate the owner of the dog, by taking the dog to a licensed veterinarian's office or the animal shelter, or calling 311 for the shelter to come out to check for any owner identification such as a microchip implant or tattoo, within 72 hours or could be fine $500.00 by the request of the owner of the dog. You can keep or find a good home for the dog after you try to find the owner.
Any person can still rescue any stray dog and find the dog a good home as before, as long as the person checks for ID chip on the dog. This law is for the times when a person takes possession of a dog, loose or not, with ID, and does not return the dog to it's owner.
